Adventure Out Press Release: November 6, 2002

GAO featured at the Women’s Continental Breakfast Club

Oakland, California – November 6, 2002- Claude Silver, Chief Adventure Guru of girlsAdventureOUT, will speak at the Women’s Continental Breakfast Club this Thursday, November 7, 2002. Silver, with partner JudeAnn Smith, has found success in making outdoor adventuring accessible to women nationwide.

Dedicated to promoting outdoor recreational activities for women, girlsAdventureOUT is a Bay Area company that is literally taking off. Through organized clinics, classes, and group outings, GAO has dissolved the mystique of what were once considered extreme adventure sports and put them within every woman’s grasp. The thrill and excitement that men have known for years is now available to women of all ages. GAO encourages women to explore their interests, redefine their fears, challenge their bodies, all the while having fun and learning new skills.

It’s not news that today’s women are over committed and have little time for themselves. While your average professional may have always wanted to learn to rock climb or kayak, she doesn’t have time to commit to long term-lessons or even spend the day exploring the activity on her own. GAO solves this by providing an invigorating, yet safe and comfortable adventure.

"We made the decision to target women only to create an atmosphere that promotes friendship and trust among women. We want to provide a community that empowers and supports women in the outdoors," explained JudeAnn Smith, CEO and President.

Founded in 2002 in San Francisco, girlsAdventureOUT has established an intriguing array of opportunities for the outdoor adventure palette. From kayaking to mountain biking, wilderness hiking to surfing, there is indeed something for everyone. These sports not only promote outdoor living, they also build a sense of community. Participants are able to meet others who are interested in similar activities and are at the same skill level, which is proven to enhance the learning process.

Recognizing the need to share its success with all Bay Area women, GAO is initiating collaborations with several non-profit and governmental agencies in order to bring outdoor access to economically disadvantaged girls/kids. This interagency cooperation will bring to those Bay area residents, who otherwise may not ever get such opportunity, the challenges and delights of outdoor adventuring. While the details of such collaborations are in the works, entities such as the YMCA/Daly City Parks and Recreation, and Glide Memorial Church will certainly welcome the opportunities.

The Women’s Continential Breakfast Club, which meets the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month, represents the finest in Bay Area entrepreneurs and businesswomen. Founded in 1997. In San Francisco, maintains a membership of 200 and hosts 10 programs every year, including The Bay Area Food Drive. Past speakers include Cindee Billings, of the San Francisco Food Bank.
