If you live in the bay area, the idea of backpacking doesn’t have to mean sitting in traffic for another few hours to reach a trailhead. The Skyline to Sea trail is the perfect adventure for a Santa Cruz/Bay Area local looking to have a genuine backcountry experience with varying terrain, right in our own beloved coastal home.

**Due to the 2020 CZU Fires, this trip is on hold INDEFINITELY.  We apologize for the inconvenience. At this time we have no information from State Parks on if/when the area will be safe and re-opened.**

This 3 day, 30 mile hike begins by departing Castle Rock State Park where one can see mountains and vistas that stretch to the final destination, Waddell Creek Beach. Along the way, you will transcend through the ancient coast redwoods of Big Basin State park. Take a break and relax while feeling the mist of the 65 foot tall, Berry Creek Falls. This adventure is the perfect way to see the all the diversity of flora and fauna that exist from 2000 ft in elevation, all the way down to sea level! Hiking is a personal adventure. Find a rhythm for yourself and stick with it. Remember that you are in no hurry and are out to enjoy yourself. Have good boots that are well broken in. Just pay attention to your body and enjoy.

The trip meets in Castle Rock State Park. Please contact Adventure Out if you are booking airplane reservations or need additional assistance with transportation. Directions, maps, recommended packing lists, and other details will all be provided upon registration.

Your trip includes:
Pre-trip phone and email counseling with the group leaders to discuss the routes and how to pack for a backcountry trip. Professional and experienced guides, permits and camping fees. Dinner on day 1, Breakfast & dinner on day 2, Breakfast on day 3. Lunches and extra snacks will be your responsibility.

Your packing list:
You will need to bring all the necessary clothes and backpacking equipment for the trip (pack, sleeping bag, tent, water bottle, etc) – an exact packing list will be provided upon registration. Backpacking equipment is available for rent for additional fees per item.
