Q: Where do we meet for the class?

A: Our Santa Cruz surf classes meet in the small city parking lot for Cowell’s Beach, directly adjacent to the entrance of the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf (the pier next to the Boardwalk). Here is a map: http://bit.ly/dbucdF

Q: What time should I arrive for my class?

A: Parking can be difficult – we recommend arriving 20 minutes before the start of your class to find parking. You will either need a minimum of $5 in quarters to use the meters on the street, or use our recommended parking lot at Depot Park, which is about 2 blocks down the street from Cowells Beach: City of SC Depot Park Info Page

Q: Do I need to remit payment at the class site?

A: No, if you’ve registered online, your credit card has been charged and you are paid. GRATUITIES: Our instructors work very hard and do accept gratuities. Typical gratuity rates are 10-20% of your class fee.

Q: Are there any hotels in the area?

A: There are dozens on hotel options in Santa Cruz. The closest to Cowells Beach is the Santa Cruz Dream Inn which directly overlooks the surf spot:http://www.dreaminnsantacruz.com

Q: I think I forgot to choose my wetsuit and or bootie size when registering (or chose incorrectly) – how can I fix this?

A: No big deal – we use these numbers as rough estimates. We always have LOTS of extra equipment at the beach.

Q: I don’t have a car – is there any other way to get to the beach?

A: Get a ride from Lyft! Adventure Out has partnered with Lyft to get new users a ride credit towards your first ride (credit amount varies with Lyft monthly promotions and can range from $5-$25). Click here: www.lyft.com/invited/adventureout – sign up with Lyft and get a ride credit, courtesy of Adventure Out!

Q: Why are some of the class times SOOO early?! (like 7am?!)

A: When it comes to surfing, mother nature sets a lot of the rules – that’s what makes it such a unique sport. The wave in Santa Cruz is very tide-dependent, so if we don’t go on the right tide, we won’t get any waves! While those early morning sessions might be hard to wake up for, they are also truly magical. Great surf conditions, no wind, no crowds – it is about as epic as it gets. If you make the commitment go early, we can promise you’ll be rewarded with the experience of a lifetime!
