Q: Where do we meet for the class?
A: Do NOT use Google Maps or Mapquest to get directions – we cannot allow for refunds/reschedules for people that miss their class. The site is easy to find, however most online mapping programs provide poor directions. The best method is as follows:
Determine which city you are closer to: Santa Cruz, CA or Saratoga, CA. Drive to the nearest city using any major freeway (it is OK to use online maps to get directions to either of these cities).
From Santa Cruz:
Take Hwy 9 North to Boulder Creek (approximately 14 miles or 30 minutes). After passing through downtown Boulder Creek, turn RIGHT on Bear Creek Road. The Scout Reservation is approximately 1.2 miles down Bear Creek Rd on your right. Look for a large wood sign the reads “Boulder Creek Boy Scout Reservation”.
Hwy 9 begins at the west end of Saratoga Ave in downtown Saratoga – take Hwy 9 South to Boulder Creek (approx 20 miles or 40 minutes). Just before reaching downtown Boulder Creek, turn LEFT on Bear Creek Road. The Scout Reservation is approximately 1.2 miles down Bear Creek Rd on your right. Look for a large wood sign the reads “Boulder Creek Boy Scout Reservation”.
Q: What time should I arrive for my class?
A: Please arrive 10 minutes before the start of class. Please carpool if possible – parking is free but limited.
Q: Looks like it might rain, is my class still on?
A: All Adventure Out survival classes are RAIN OR SHINE! …it is after all, a survival class. We do have rain coverage we use at the camp so you wont be standing in the rain the whole time. Dress appropriately and you will have a great time. If you are adverse to the idea of taking a class in inclimate weather, please only register for summer dates. We do have to pay for each person’s space at the camp in advance of the class, so we are not able to offer refunds or reschedules if you choose not to attend due to weather (or any other reason).
Q: Do I need to remit payment at the class site?
A: No, if you’ve registered online, your credit card has been charged and you are paid. GRATUITIES: Our instructors work very hard and do accept gratuities. Typical gratuity rates are 10-20% of your class fee.
Q: I don’t have a car, Is there public transportation available?
A: There is no public transportation directly to the class site, however there is a city bus from Santa Cruz that will get you all the way to downtown Boulder Creek – 1 mile away. Or, get a ride from Lyft! Adventure Out has partnered with Lyft to get new users a $50 ride credit towards your first ride. Q: What should I bring with me?
A: Be prepared to spend a day in the woods. The class location is approximately a 10 minute walk from the parking lot. You should have appropriate clothing, sun protection, snacks, water, and a day backpack.
